Understanding Low Self-Esteem

Low self-esteem is more than just insecurity. It can affect how you think, how you act, and how you relate to others. You might constantly criticise yourself, struggle to accept compliments, or feel unworthy of success, love, or happiness. It can hold you back from relationships, opportunities, or even speaking up for yourself.

Often, low self-esteem stems from childhood experiences, bullying, trauma, comparisons, or harsh internal beliefs picked up over time.

How Counselling Can Help with Low Self-Esteem

Counselling offers a space to untangle the beliefs and experiences that have shaped how you see yourself. You’ll begin to identify and challenge your inner critic, develop self-compassion, and reconnect with your strengths and values. This work isn’t about becoming arrogant — it’s about reclaiming your right to feel comfortable in your own skin.

Whether your low self-esteem affects your work, relationships, or daily mood, therapy can support you in recognising your worth and living from it.
