Understanding Adult Trauma
Trauma isn’t just about what happened, it’s about how it made you feel: unsafe, powerless, overwhelmed. Adult trauma can result from a wide range of experiences, including accidents, violence, abusive relationships, medical trauma, sudden loss, or witnessing distressing events. It can lead to symptoms such as anxiety, emotional numbness, flashbacks, nightmares, hypervigilance, or difficulty trusting others.
Trauma can make it feel like you're stuck in survival mode, reacting rather than living.
How Counselling Can Help with Adult Trauma
Trauma-informed counselling helps you process overwhelming experiences at your own pace. It’s not about reliving the past, but about creating safety in the present. In therapy, you’ll learn to recognise your trauma responses, manage triggers, and begin reconnecting with your emotions and body in a grounded way.
Together, we’ll work to reduce fear, shame, or guilt and support you in rebuilding your sense of self, trust, and safety from the inside out.
